After a heated bidding war which was going on between some major studios, Netflix has now secured the rights to John Henry and The Statesmen, which is an original pitch from writer Tom Wheeler with Dwayne Johnson all set to star in the upcoming series. The Jumaji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan is also going to helm the show.
The film is Johnson’s first feature with Netflix which is another win for the streaming site. It has already started production on projects which star Ryan Reynolds and another one with Mark Wahlberg, as reported by Variety.com. "Netflix is the perfect partner and platform for us to continue entertaining our global audience in a disruptive way," Johnson said.
"These diverse characters speak to a legacy of storytelling that is more relevant than ever and span across a worldwide audience regardless of age, gender, race, or geography," he added.
Wheeler had developed the pitch along with Hiram Garcia who is the president of production at Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks [roductions. The Rock will also be the producer!
