The Duchess of Cambridge, otherwise known as Kate Middleton, was born as Catherine Elizabeth Middleton in 1982. She caught the attention of the world, not only because she is a commoner turned into royalty after her 2011 marriage to the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, but for her style statements that have consistently made headlines. Her impact on the British and American fashion scenes has been tagged as the “Kate Middleton effect”, in particular as she has boosted sales for the products and brands she wears.
By 2014, she was being viewed by youth abroad as a British cultural icon alongside others including William Shakespeare, Queen Elizabeth II, Charlie Chaplin, The Beatles, Elton John, David Beckham, J.K. Rowling, and Adele. She has been mentioned on various Best Dressed lists, including the International Best Dressed Hall of Fame List in 2014. In 2018, Tatler praised her for “recycling her looks, rather than wearing them as one-offs”, as well as her use of “both high street and high-end brands”. - PIC: PTI
