Sadly, another one of our favourite couples has parted ways. Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne, who started dating in 2015, have confirmed that they have broken up. Although it is not clear when exactly the split took place, rumours had started swirling about a possible break up months ago. Unfortunately, the former One Direction member put rest to all the rumours by taking to his Instagram on Sunday night to post an official statement. He wrote, "Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family." He then went on about the adorable 1-year-old son the couple share, oddly named Bear, saying, "Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together." Cheryl also posted an almost identical message on her Twitter. Since they gave no reasoning for the break-up, celebrity gossip followers proceeded to come up with their theories, the most popular of which states that Joan Callaghan, Cole’s mother, did not approve of the young Payne and drove a wedge between the two, encouraging them to go their separate ways. Cheryl did not take to this news well, tweeting, "I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam,”. She further continued, "I don't know why they involve her in stories about me."I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it. I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life. She is a soft and kind woman who doesn't deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with her."
Singers Cheryl, 35, and Liam, 24, first met when he came in to audition for The X Factor in 2008, which Cole was a judge in, and Liam was only 14-years-old. The two started their romance in 2015 and then had their baby boy Bear on March 22, 2017. Cole, former member of the girl band Girls Aloud, had already been married twice before, first to the England footballer Ashley Cole and then to the French restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in 2016. The couple even sparked rumours of a secret-wedding when Payne referred to Cole as his wife in an interview, but nothing was ever confirmed. Whatever the case may be, we are glad the break-up was not a messy one!
