One of Bollywood’s most gorgeous and talented actresses, Katrina Kaif set the ramp on fire along with friend and co-star Salman Khan, for Manish Malhotra’s Haute Couture 2018 show in Mumbai recently. The show was a celebration of 13 years of Manish’s illustrious design label, and the showcased collection derived inspiration from the old-world magic of the Indo-Persian era.
Katrina was the epitome of elegance and grace as she sizzled in an embellished ensemble replete with a cape. Wavy hair and subtle makeup perfectly complemented her ethereal avatar. The actors were all smiles as they walked the ramp, and the chemistry was palpable. There is a certain aura of comfort between the two which reflects well on-screen as well as off-screen.
Salman and Katrina have worked together in several films, including Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, Yuvraj, Ek Tha Tiger, and Tiger Zinda Hai, and have recently signed another film -- Bharat. This will be their fifth collaboration as lead actors. The film is a remake of the 2014 South Korean film, Ode to My Father. In the film, Katrina will play Salman’s love interest.
When asked on what basis she agreed to do the film, she told IANS that it was on the basis of the script.
“The roles which I have chosen for myself are purely based on script and what my character is in that film. So for me, it is extremely exciting to be working with the team again. When Ali contacted me this time, he said ‘Goldfish’ (He calls me Goldfish), ‘I am sending you a script and just react to it and tell me what you feel about it’.
When I read the script, I thought it was absolutely wonderful and I felt extremely excited about the character which I am playing in the film. Therefore, I am very happy to be part of the film.”
The actress, who is the brand ambassador of the non-profit organisation ‘Educate Girls’, believes movies can be effective in putting out a message that can bring about a change in society. When previously asked what she thinks about having a movie based on ‘educating girls’ in Bollywood, she said, “I don’t believe you need to have a movie to take this cause further or spread the awareness about this cause. There are many ways we can do it, although with a movie, sometimes a message comes across in a non-judgmental, non-forceful or organic entertaining form, so it might be an amazing way to get the message across. Someone making a movie on this would be outstanding.”
The Tiger Zinda Hai actor said women have to be more encouraging towards other women for creating a healthy environment.
Besides education, what are the other initiatives that need to be taken in order to empower girls all around the world?
Katrina said, “I think a lot of steps have been taken all over the world... whether it is equality at the workplace, or for that matter, even the attitude that women have towards each other.
Lately, I have become aware of it myself. Sometimes, I honestly think, do we really support our contemporaries? Do I really support the women around me as much as I can?
Sometimes the competitive mindset can actually stop you from being cooperative and encouraging towards others and I myself have become more aware of that.”
But, she said she is now consciously trying to encourage women around her to make them better
Moving on, when IANS spoke to Katrina’s trainer, Yasmin Karachiwala, about her super-fit body, the expert said, “Katrina is one of the most interesting people to work with because she expects a new workout every time she walks in to the gym. The workout should meet her goals, it should meet her fitness levels, and it should strengthen the parts that are weak.”
Before beginning work on each movie, Katrina sits with the trainer to create a fitness regime and new schedule.
The actress will next be seen in Anand L. Rai’s Zero, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. The film is slated for release in December 2018.
