Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle in a fairy-tale ceremony at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19. Unlike most other royal weddings, Prince Harry’s was a simple and intimate wedding that was attended by 600, including their respective families, friends and celebrities. The service was led by the Dean of Windsor, after which the couple exchanged rings and were bestowed the titles Duke and Duchess of Sussex. While Meghan’s wedding ring was made from a piece of Welsh gold that was gifted to her by the Queen, Harry’s was a platinum band with a textured finish.
The venue, St. George’s Chapel, is said to hold a very special place for Prince Harry as he was baptised there in 1984. He and Meghan have also spent a lot of time there during the last year.
Meghan stunned everyone with her strength and independence by walking down the aisle alone; it was the first time any royal bride had done this. Prince Charles, the Duke of Cornwall, met her in the middle and walked her the rest of the way, as her father Thomas Markle was unable to attend due to health issues.
This royal wedding was attended by Hollywood royaltyas well as actual royalty. Amongst the attendees were George and Amal Clooney, Priyanka Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Hardy, Serena Williams, James Corden, James Blunt, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes, Earl Spencer, and Sir Elton John with his husband David Furnish. Sir Elton also performed a small concert for the couple at their reception. Apart from this, there were also 2,640 people invited to watch the royal wedding from inside the castle grounds.
Following the wedding service, the Queen hosted a wedding reception for the couple at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle. The second reception, hosted by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, was a private evening event for around 200 guests that took place at Frogmore House, a royal residence in Windsor. - PIC: PTI
