Renowned fashion designer Katherine Noel Brosnahan, who is the visionary behind the leading American fashion brand Kate Spade New York has passed away at the age of 55.
The designer and businesswomen created the fashion label along with her husband Andy Spade in the year 1993. Katherine Noel Brosnahan also known as Kate Spade quit her job as an editor at Mademoiselle magazine and started the fashion line with the help of her husband Andy Spade. Initially, the couple introduced a limited edition consisting of six purses. In the year 1996, the first Kate Spade store was opened in New York City's SoHo and soon the label has grown into a global lifestyle brand.
The purses that Kate Spade made became a status symbol among the young generation. Initially the label consisted of only clothing and accessories, however later the fashion brand introduced home products, beauty products, shoes, stationary and kids collection. In the year 2017, Kate Spade New York also introduced an exclusive collection with Williams Sonoma including glassware, dinnerware and flatware.
Katherine received numerous awards, in the year 1995 she was given a rising-talent award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She was named as the accessory designer of the year in 1997 and the best accessories designer at the Accessories Council's ACE Awards in 1999. Kate Spade New York was sold to Tapestry, Inc in July 2017 for $2.4 billion. The fashion label is widely known for its signature colourful aesthetic and whimsical style.
