One of the common health problems faced by people in today’s past faced world is high blood pressure. High blood pressure or hypertension refers to build up of pressure of blood in the artery walls. When this pressure reaches too high, it can lead to some serious health issues like- heart failure, blood cloths, kidney diseases, loss of brain function and stroke. There are various factors that can lead to high blood pressure. Some of the major causes are- stress, age, family history, overweight, lack of exercise, alcohol, smoking, and poor diet.

If you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you may be worried about taking medicines daily to keep it in control but guess what; there are plenty of ways to control high blood pressure without medicines.

Increase the intake of fresh vegetables and fruits. Consider incorporating foods rich in potassium like sweet potatoes, spinach, banana, oranges, mushrooms , peas etc. These potassium rich foods reduce the sodium levels in your blood.  The reduction of sodium in your blood is very good for your heart and it keeps your blood pressure under control.
  3. Quit smoking and reduce drinking- For those of you who smoke, one of the main steps you must do in order to keep your blood count in check is to stop smoking. Smoking not only reduces the number of years you will live but it is also very dangerous to your heart. On the other hand, moderate level of drinking (one- two) glasses is fine but drinking beyond that is not good for your health. Alcohol consumption contributes to the increase in the level of blood pressure. Hence, stay fit and healthy by staying away from drinking and smoking.
